In order for Canadians to own (or borrow) firearm or purchase ammunition they must hold a Possession and Acquisition License (PAL). There are two categories new PALs are issued under. The categories define the type of firearms the user is allowed to purchase and use.
If you hold a non-restricted possession and acquisition license you can own firearms that are generally used for hunting, These firearms are primarily longer in length (i.e. shotguns and certain rifles). Non-restricted PAL holders can also purchase ammunition.
In addition to hunting-style firearms, individuals with a restricted possession and acquisition license can purchase handguns and certain other restricted that are permitted in Canada.
Fees include training kit (course reports and study material)
This 8-hour course allows a novice to get their non-restricted firearms license. It is specifically designed to progress at a reasonable pace and allow someone with limited or no prior firearms experience to successfully pass the government approved tests (taken the same day).
This 6-hour add-on course allows the enthusiast to upgrade their non-restricted license to include restricted firearms (handguns and some military-looking firearms.) This can be taken immediately after passing the Non-Restricted Canadian Firearms Safety Course so that you can apply for both classifications at the same time.
